Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party and twin brother of the late President Lech Kaczynski, wrote in a letter read out at the ceremony: "Politics belongs to the world of values, is not in accord with evil."
"President Duda beautifully and creatively develops the Interseas concept by developing the Three Seas Initiative which groups 12 countries of Central Europe," the letter continued.
This is the first time the Prometheus Award has been given, and only this year is it awarded in a special edition.
Receiving the honour, President Duda pointed out the Lech Kaczynski was criticised by the media as a romantic in politics, in contrast to a pragmatic government.
"The most romantic sign of Lech Kaczynski's politics is the gas port in Swinoujscie," Duda said, adding that "Lech Kaczynski's great concept of foreign policy" would be carried out. As an example, he gave the recently concluded agreement with US President Donald Trump providing for an increased US military presence in Poland. The command of the American division will be located in Poznan (western Poland).
The other laureates of the Lech Kaczynski memorial Prometheus Award were presidential aide Krzysztof Szczerski, former Agriculture Minister Krzysztof Jurgiel, current Agriculture Minister Jan Ardanowski and CEO of oil concern PKN Orlen Daniel Obajtek. (PAP)
